Really important thread about how “new media” is a broken model. It draws far too much attention to non-event circus-like spectacles like yesterday’s right wing rally in Portland.
If one takes a few seconds to look into the “political movement” behind yesterday’s right wing event it immediately becomes clear that these folks couldn’t talk about public policy for more than 5 seconds before lapsing into nonsense.
This is about right wingers trying to monetize their supposed victimhood by staging a pseudo-event they hope will provide video fodder that will confirm a pre-existing GOP narrative that makes Fox viewers tune in and white conservatives go to the polls.
I mean, seriously, this is the “vision” animating one of the main groups that traveled to Portland to defend “free speech” or whatever.
The main organizer is a guy whose primary credential is that he’s been on InfoWars. This event was motivated less by “conservatism” and more by the desire to hawk fake masculinity-enhancing supplements to credulous young men.
