Epidemic of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in Europe is driven by nosocomial spread | Nature Microbiology nature.com/articles/s4156…

As compared to other resistance mechanisms for Klebsiella pneumoniae, strains with carbapenamases were more likely to have their “genetic nearest neighbor” within the same hospital, suggesting they are more likely spread within single hospitals.

One point brought up by our group is that the study did not look at community strains, so it’s possible these strains are in the nearby community but not necessarily being spread just in the hospital.
