Let me tell you, anybody counting Native people out & our future generations, has another thing coming. The energy I felt the last 2 days at #NativeForum was reinvigorating, and I was reminded of our collective power, but it’s a power of the spirit, carried on from our ancestors.
Before all this, I was having a difficult time remembering why I am, where I am. Bearing the brunt of elite institutions that uphold white supremacy, it’s really easy to become burnt out & jaded. You wonder if the system is changing us more than we can resist it.
It has been healing being back home on my own Winnebago Rez, and that the #NativeForum worked with us so that our songs and tribal leaders were incorporated. It was much more than that though, it was tribal leaders & activists & volunteers doing small things, for this big thing.
I like to listen & some people call me “reserved” upon first meeting me, so thought it might get in the way of making meaningful connections, lol. But I had run into people that remembered me from way back from INMED to Siouxper Drunk & North Dakota & FB & Twitter.
I was excited about much of in-depth discussions that occurred that brought in Federal Indian Law & how it is impacting us today including on Doctrine of Discovery, Opiphant, & ICWA. It is truly unprecedented.
Anyways, just some thoughts from the ground. That’s not saying there aren’t improvements that can be made etc., & that is a part of the process as well, for the future. Because this is just the beginning. This is a turning point.
