Hmm, I just came upon this article about Byrne, which says he/Overstock started a security token market for crypto, called tZero, which is under SEC investigation.

He’s also all over the place with starting new ventures within Overstock and losing lots of money. I do realize that many business ventures fail and if you never try, you’ll never succeed, but It’s all a bit questionable to me.

Here’s a little more info about the SEC investigation. Looks like Overstock/tZero was part of a larger SEC probe into crypto ICOs.

There was also supposed to be a deal with Chinese private equity firm GSR Capital, who was going to invest $404 million into Overstock and tZero, but it never went through. They then sign Ed a MOU with GSR and a 3rd company, Makara Capital.

John Perry Barlow was also a founding member of the EFF and Freedom of the Press Foundation. He's done interviews with Assange and Snowden, and sat on the board of the FPF along with Snowden.
