#GenerationGap vs #Gap in #Generations - An Unique Problems for 1970s kids of Tamil Nadu

When these kids were born, India was almost like 1947 only
Doordharshan was black and white only (color came during Asian games)
Banks trains buses everything was old fashioned 1/10

These kids - including me, of course - got three or four new dresses a year
Our parents focussed on Savings and education
We never went to hotel to eat unless it was another town
Evenings were spend playing
Adults talked with others in the street sitting in door

2/10

India of 1990 was not dissimilar to America or 1920
But
India of 2019 is like America of 2015

What it took America 95 years - three to four generations

Happened in India in 25 years

Difference between 1940s kids of India and 1970s kids of India is one generation only
3/10

But
Difference between 1970s kids and 1990s kids in Tamil Nadu is
Three generations

Everyday at least one parent in 50s complain to me that their kid in teenage does not respect them

I explain the above concept and then ask them

4/10

When you joined in your first job how did you behave with your manager

Now
You are manager or General manager how the campus recruited guy behaves with you

5/10

Just like how your-your manager relationship in 1990s is much different from your new recruit - your relationship in 2019

Your and your parents relationship in 1980s
Is different
From your and your kids relationship in 2019

Then they understand
6/10

What we don't understand is
We need to know that while there existed just a Generation Gap between 1940-70, 1950-80 etc
What exists between 1970-00s kids is Gap of Generations

It is nearly three generations

This gap is not just there in Parent - kids or Manager-Recruit
7/10

The Gap is present every where

it is present in education, it is present in health care
Within two decades

The Communicable - Non Communicable Diseases Transition in Mortality and Morbidity in Tamil Nadu Took merely two decades
8/10

GER crossed 50 percent in merely two decades
Agriculture became less than 15 % of GDP while services crossed 50 % of GDP in same time
I don't think we can have a parallel of 60 million people undergoing this much transformation within two decades any where in the world
9/10

There can be small states like Singapore which did this, but 60 million transforming at such a rapid pace never happened any where

We need to keep this concept in mind when you look at solutions for Healthcare, Real Estate, Education, Employment, Agriculture, Water etc
