I want to start a short satirical thread on this: "Commentary: Watch for casual ageism and other signs of caustic attitudes about older workers" po.st/ah0r5h via @ChannelNewsAsia
@ChannelNewsAsia Scene: meeting room with clients. Older workers interrupt meeting. "Time for my medicines". "Doctor says I must walk around the room every 30 minutes". "Cough cough cough cough cough".
Scene: Younger employee: "You mixed the wrong chemicals again..." Older employee:"My vision was a bit too blurred just now".
Scene: Older employee: "I feel giddy..." Passes out on office floor.
Scene: Older employee preses and pushes virtual screen buttons and sliders but cannot get interface to work.
Mind you, all these Older Employees are aged 65 and older.
Young Upstart Manager: "The older ones are literally slowing us down". Elderly employee: "Back in my day...." YUM: "Thank you, thank you, please take a rest."
Frankly, it just isn't a simple stroke of the pen and organisational culture changes to accomodate elderly workers. Please think carefully, Dear Government of Singapore.
