Yesterday, as part of our series Summer of Sex, sex educator Venus Cuffs (@venuscuffs) took over our Instagram and hosted a livestream on our account @wearyourvoice.

Her work was engaging, educational and featured crucial information for people looking to learn more about sex and sexuality. She also spoke about her thoughts on power and power exchange through her work as a sex educator.

After the livestream, Venus Cuffs tried to log back into her account which was then deleted.

To be very clear: Wear Your Voice stands in full solidarity with queer Black women sex educators whose presence online is crucial.

Instagram has a well-known history and reputation of shadow-banning and deleting accounts of Black and brown revolutionaries, activists and advocates and political dissidents.

Our content is regularly restricted by Instagram and this latest issue shows how much Instagram is engaging in harming Black and brown people, especially Black women & femmes.

We stand in full solidarity of Venus Cuffs, we demand that her account be reinstated and to those who reported her account, you are not welcome at Wear Your Voice. Our page is a safe space for queer, trans and nonbinary Black, indigenous and people of color.

Please call on @Instagram to reverse their decision on @venuscuffs
