“He ruined my life and a lot of girls’ lives. People need to know what he did and why he wasn’t prosecuted so it never happens again.” #PerversionofJustice (THREAD)
Today, more than a dozen women — and perhaps as many as three dozen — who were sexually abused by sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein are expected to testify in a New York courtroom. #PerversionofJustice hrld.us/2U9cJC9
Among Epstein’s victims, there are mothers, wives, nurses, bartenders, Realtors, hairdressers and teachers. One is an actress. Several have grappled with trauma, depression and addiction. Some have served time in prison. #PerversionofJustice hrld.us/2U7cWWA
A few did not survive. One young woman was found dead last year in a rundown motel in West Palm Beach. She overdosed on heroin and left behind a young son. #PerversionofJustice
Many of them were young teens when they were ensnared by Epstein’s sexual pyramid scheme. #PerversionofJustice hrld.us/2U9RhgA
They would be lured to his pink waterfront mansion in Palm Beach by other victims, who went to malls, house parties, and other places where girls would gather. They were told they could earn up to $300 to give Epstein a massage. #PerversionofJustice
During these so-called massage sessions, Epstein would molest them, paying them premiums for engaging in oral sex and intercourse, and offering them more money to find him more victims. #PerversionofJustice
More than a decade ago, they were robbed of justice when former Trump Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, at the time a federal prosecutor, cut Epstein a plea deal that let him serve just 13 months in jail. #PerversionofJustice hrld.us/2AruaUY
The pact required Epstein to plead guilty to two prostitution charges in state court. Epstein and four of his accomplices named in the agreement received immunity from all federal criminal charges. #PerversionofJustice
Even more unusual, the deal included wording that granted immunity to “any potential co-conspirators’’ who were also involved in Epstein’s crimes. #PerversionofJustice hrld.us/2U9EbQ9
As part of the plea deal, Acosta agreed, despite a federal law to the contrary, that the arrangement would be kept from the victims. #PerversionofJustice
But they will get their day in court today, despite knowing that the predator who abused them took his own life in a Manhattan jail cell. #PerversionofJustice hrld.us/2U7tPQS
“I can’t say that I’m pleased he committed suicide, but I am at peace knowing he will not be able to hurt anyone else,’’ one of his victims said in a written statement released Tuesday by her lawyer, Lisa Bloom. #PerversionofJustice hrld.us/2U9cJC9
Prosecutors in Manhattan now say they intend to investigate — and possibly bring charges against — some of Jeffrey Epstein’s “enablers.” #PerversionofJustice hrld.us/2Jn6ozv
