How low can @Church_Militant go? You'd be surprised! I always am. Here is a piece of garbage that tries to link me, bizarrely, with John Podesta, who is linked to Jeffrey Epstein, via some nutty hypotheticals. For once, let me respond to their craziness: churchmilitant.com/news/article/f…
You would think that most people could see through this obvious codswallop, but since some people can't (or won't) here are the answers to the (actual) questions in this article, published on the site of this "Catholic apostolate":
"Is there a possible connection between the notorious John Podesta and Fr. James Martin?" Sorry to say, but I've never even heard of him. And if I met him at some function, I have forgotten. Sorry, Mr. Podesta. And, sorry @Church_Militant.
"However, is it possible that Fr. Martin is one of Podesta's 'Jesuit friends'?" Well, I am a Jesuit, so that part's true; but, again, I'm not even sure who he is. So, no.
"Is it possible that Colbert at one point introduced his close friend Podesta to his close friend Fr. Martin?" Uh, no. He didn't. All things being equal, I would rather that Colbert had introduced me to Ron Burgundy.
"The big question is: Who supported and coached Fr. James Martin to write 'Building a Bridge'?" Um, no one. I was moved to write it after the Pulse Nightclub Massacre, where 49 LGBT people were killed, as I've said many times. Research tip: It's in the first chapter of the book.
"Is it possible that Fr. Martin is a crucial figure in this new Catholic Spring? If so, how long has he been working to overturn Catholic teaching?" I hadn't heard of the "Catholic Spring" until just now. And no, I'm not working to "overturn Catholic teaching."
Here's how this baloney ends: "As the fall-out of the Jeffery Epstein and Theodore McCarrick scandals continue to rain onto the digital pages of the post-millennial media and the thin line between 'the news' and 'conspiracy theories' rapidly dissolves..."
Let's pause here. As "The New Yorker" used to say, "Block that metaphor!" Okay, we now return to the crazy.
...it has become quite clear that the mask of power in our country is slipping off, and we will, very soon, see the true face of the 'director' who has been running The Fr. James Martin Show."
"Very soon"! The suspense is killing me.
On a more serious note: hate, lies, cruelty and twisted logic (as in this piece) are what characterize Church Militant's articles and videos today. Some are easy to laugh at, like this piece. But others, far more malign, worm their way into people's minds, and cause real damage.
One wonders if there is a scrap of Christian charity left in this group, if they have any sense of decency remaining, or if even they believe the stuff that they're now publishing on the website of this "Catholic apostolate."
