Who has a say in setting social norms?

Often it’s the public behaviour of group members.

Importantly, we pay attention to some people’s public behaviour more than others.

Social referents: The people we refer to when trying to understand how to behave.

Norm intervention example (Roots):
Identify the most influential students within schools.
Get the students to choose what problems they wanted solve.
+ Attach student makes to messages
+ Socially visible material (wrist bands)

Key take out:
When it comes to social norms, community members really have a say, especially those who attract the most attention.

Important question: What are the priorities of these highly influential social referents? #BX2019
