1995. PJ Powers and Ladysmith Black Mambazo official vid and official Rugby World Cup anthem "World In Union". I was still a snot faced laaitie but remember this song so vividly. Still get goosebumps hearing this version.
Oh, if you're new to watching rugby. Unlike with FIFA World Cups which have different theme songs for each tournament, with the Rugby WC the same song is used for all the world cups...it is just re imagined, remixed and adapted for each host. The song is "World In Union". 🤙🏾
This is the 1999 Rugby World Cup version sung by Dame Shirley Bassey and the Black Mountain Male Chorus. *yawn fest"
The 1999 WC was in Wales. Hence Shirley Bassey.
The 2003 RWC was in Australia. Cue didgeridoos galore. Sounds like Savage Garden. 😒
The 2007 RWC was in France. John Smit, Thabo Mbeki and the others won it in Paris. The last RWC we won...and obviously the French would make their version in French. Obviously.
The last rugby world cup was in England. You can tell by their version. They had the best visuals for theirs though, I'll give 'em that innit?!
This is the 2019 version. For the Rugby World Cup in Japan starting tomorrow. Sounds like a Samsung ring tone.
Ja no, even with my unashamed bias and favouritism we win this.
The 2011 RWC was in New Zealand. The one where we were robbed by an Aussie/NZ ref. I'll never forget this one. This version sounds like pixies holding their noses.
