October! A time where we begin to celebrate death and change. By the end of the month we put costumes on and masks our faces to celebrate All Souls Day or Halloween. The masquerade ball, or mystery ball, becomes the event of the season. But is there more to these parties?

The masquerade ball is an ancient spiritual tradition that allowed us to become certain archetypal personalities and interact with one another, much like a large scale interactive mystery play.

Through the embodiment of certain characters we would open ourselves to deep insights, our personality being temporarily set aside to absorb a new dynamic. This was a healing, cathartic and mind expanding process.

People often dressed as historical figures, forces of nature or fictional characters.

This was a sacred gathering, the power of a conscious group of people gathering and embodying timely key cosmic archetypes, narratives and figures is incredibly potent. It is the definition of ritual.

Many times these mystery masquerade balls would centre around a psychic event, perhaps a seance, channeling or even a maze walk. This tradition dates back to Atlantean times.

In our more recent times these mystery parties have become dark and distorted. What was once a refined, conscious and deliberate group spiritual practice is now often reduced to hedonistic parties, with no accurate cosmic meaning that reduce the attendees to their animal natures.

In this weeks video I explore my memories of these parties in past lives. A maze walk and the rise and the fall of sacred traditions.
