My friend Anneka went to London today to visit our friend Mark in prison, but she was turned away. Guess why ...

...

No, she wasn't trying to smuggle in contraband...

It was something far more subversive...

She had offended propriety and neglected modesty by failing to wear a bra ...

Wait, am I allowed to say "bra" in a tweet?

Let me just check what century we're in.

Phew, I think saying "bra" is in fact allowed. Nevertheless, apologies to anyone whose sensibilities may have been offended by gratuitous reference to foundation garments.

I wouldn't expect a male prison to be a bastion of women's liberation, but even so this is beyond a joke (even if did raise a titter). Sorry.

The serious point is that very few prison visits are allowed, and denying inmates the opportunity to see friends, family and loved ones on entirely spurious grounds is a harsh and unusual punishment.

Update: Not sure what page, but Anneka’s breasts have made it into the Sun: thesun.co.uk/news/10309031/… This one is good because it also includes a video Mark made about why he’s chosen to go to prison. Much love to Mark!
