G'DAY. With the hype of #PokemonSwordShield right around the corner, care to have a look at an Aussie Pokemon game, Pokemon Yeah and Pokemon Nah?
Set in the region of Straya, players will experience the unique land of down unda.
This thread will have art for Yeah and Nah! 🇦🇺🦘
Welcome, this is the Straya region. (STRAI-YAAH) A vast, sunburnt country with an arctic baseline. Players can choose their starting town, which are the ones named! The gameplay experience adjusts so the sandbox-styled region's progression is non-linear.
Introducing Bruce (Bazza) and Shella (Shazza), the protagonists of Pokemon Yeah and Pokemon Nah.
They're customizable, of course! I'll post up concepts of them later.
Meet Skippee, the completely legit and real Kangaroo Pokemon 🍃 With incredibly strong kicks and a powerful boomerang tail, Skippee and their evolutions are a fantastic companion to have in the outback.
Meet Scorcht, the also very real Red Bellied Black Snake Pokemon 🔥 Scorcht and their evolutions are explosive fire types, who are temperamental but always keen to have a good time and party hard. Don't wake up Hissleep, however, they had a big night.
Meet Pladdle, the too-good-to-be-real Platypus Pokemon 🌊 Pladdle and their evolutions are helpful Pokemon with a beaut' of a mullet. They can be found saving tourists from beaches and reminding people to "slip, slop, slap".
Now for the Pokemon of the Straya Region, here's the bin chicken, Ibin!
But it's not all it seems, this thing evolves into a 2m tall nightmare called Huntsmare that truly gives the horrifying wildlife in Australia justice. It's based off a real spider, I swear.
Not everything is out to get you in Pokemon Yeah and Pokemon Nah. Meet Gallopoli, the Nurse Joy's companion for the Straya region.
A dedicated Pokemon that will truly never give up when trying to help other Pokemon and people.
I'll be posting up concept sheets in the replies!
The concept sheets for Skippee and it's evolutions. Kangarang really utilizes the wooden boomerang in battle. Would you choose Skippee as your starter?
Concepts for the sleepy, party snake, Scorcht and it's evolutions. Look at the way Venolistic shoots 🔥 from it's back. It's like fireworks!
Would you choose Scorcht as your starter? If so, could you handle it?
It's the boi, Pladdle and it's evolutions! The lifeguard platypus with a colour scheme inspired by @bondirescue . They're helpful Pokemon, well, except maybe Bogano.
Would you choose Pladdle as your starter?
This is the concept sheet for Ibin, the bin chicken Pokemon, a common Pokemon for the Straya Region in Pokemon Yeah and Pokemon Nah. It enjoys eating from the trash and - uh - has 6 legs? What?
Here's Huntsmare. There are 2m tall spiders all around the Straya region. These protect their nests of Ibin.
If you see a bunch of Ibin together, watch out!
Gallopoli is WHOLESOME. I thought a donkey Pokemon based off the ANZAC legend, about a man and his donkeys that helped wounded soldiers, would be perfect as the nurse Pokemon of the region.
"Crikey"! Thanks a lot for the response! I still have more concepts which are nearly done. What would you be more interested in?
Looks like there's some interest for more Pokemon. Here's Igupup and it's weird evolutions. They're based off the goanna, but their poison is glow in the dark "spray-paint"!
It's the ace of the Dark type Gym Leader. I'll post Gym Leaders soon 👀
Popia and the evolutions are inspired by ANZAC traditions with poppies, but also the primordial deity in Greek mythology, Hypnos.
Try not to get put to sleep by this one, aye.
Dropbare are a terrifying Pokemon, not many live to tell the tale of this Pokemon that drops from trees. A distant cousin to Komala, people are unsure how such a thing is related to the softer, cuddlier one.
DROPBARE IS BASED OFF A VERY REAL ANIMAL. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
Seeing such a massive response really warms the heart. Thanks, everyone, you're all "absolute legends"! I'll keep on working and postin' up Pokemon Yeah and Nah stuff.
And to that one person who asked if they can make fan art, I lost your comment but go ahead!
And we're back, mates, with this little bugger. Wait, they're multiplying.
Get the bug spray.
Yowies are both terrifying outback monsters but also sweet chocolates with hidden surprises in them.
No worries, Yowinji is a friendly Pokemon who will help you carry your heavy luggage. Don't anger Gamonsta, however. It won't end well.
PUT A DRIMP ON THE BARBIE MAAATE
The 15th of November is #SteveIrwinDay and I had to celebrate with something. He's an absolute legend, the perfect candidate for the Champion and Professor of the Straya region. 🐊
Meet Gomp and it's evolutions, they're absolute units.
Gomp is a cute one that rolls around when excited. Aggredile and Crocarnage are real beauties. They have powerful jaws, and use their entwined tails to help them spin when they clamp down. They are said to live for 300 years
The Strayan Regional of Sandile. They are red, to match the searing hot, red sand of the Aussie outback and deserts.
Sandile open their mouths when lying around in the outback and create small flames, looks sort of like a lighter.
"Oi, can ya give us a lighta"
Kirakira is inspired by quolls, their spots resembling constellations.
Their electrical energy brightens up any night. Sometimes forests may light up like the starry night, because there's a gathering of Kirakira and Yumeri watching the sky.
Been a while, huh?
These Strayan Venipede travel through tunnels they have dug in the volcanic island off the coast of Wajiant City. Scolipede travel at full speeds by blasting flames from behind them and using their armored plates similar to wheels.
Strayan Doduo lost a war to their emu rivals and were banished to the snowy mountains. The third head of the Dodrio is fake. Sometimes the "beak" will fall off during battle, which the Dodrio will scramble to put back on.
These were influenced by @JamesTurner_42's fun designs ✌️
During the Gold Rush in Straya, a miner brought over a Sableye from the Hoenn region. Overwhelmed by the abundance of gold and gems, the Sableye lost it's mind and indulged itself with riches. They're quite rare, but are considered pests due to their manic behavior.
Righto, who doesn't love a good game of cricket in the Straya region?
Ricket hit Emball around with their bat-shaped abdomen, as if it were some form of cricket match. This Bug/Fire type is extremely flammable, and will eventual burn out and turn to "ash" when Ricket evolves.
Whale watching is pretty big on Australia's coast, but in the Straya region, Aeraloon watching is done in high altitudes in hot air balloons. These Pokemon are massive and extremely rare.
To get a Blimerry to evolve, you need to take it to a special mountain peak during sunrise.
Strayan Flygon whip up dust devils to trap prey or unsuspecting trainers.
Australian trainer attempts to walk to the store
Mates, magpies are cunning birds, but Bravafia are highly intelligent. They lead a gang of Scree that will swoop aggressively at opponents. Swooping season occurs when gangs of Bravafia battle over territory.
Scree are born together and attack anyone who tries to separate them.
Suphi splash around in rock pools and shallow shores, while Aquarrel and Tsunacea swim along the waves in the surf. Their bodies are said to be almost made of pure water.
Herdingo, Clolly and Disguided are a "trio". Herdingo are used by farmers to herd and protect their herds of Clolly. Disguided are Dark types that disguise themselves as their prey, Clolly. When a Herdingo discovers a Disguided, they use their Mold Breaker ability to attack.
This is Herdingo, a real trainer's best friend. Based off the dingo, with a bit of blue heeler in there, they are tough as nails and use their ability to rip through Diguided's disguise. A real treasure of a Pokemon.
The wool industry is huge in Australia, so it made sense to have a sheep Pokemon. Not as cute as Wooloo, Clolly are twin-headed sheep with wool that resembles a brain. Their horns are curved similar to the DNA's double helix structure.
Some say they are quite the schemers.
If you walk through a herd of Clolly, one may appear a bit odd. It may be this intrusive pest of a Pokemon, pretending to be it's prey. Hit it and the disguise will break!
The legendary Pokemon, Quarzuroma, based off the Rainbow Serpent in indigenous Dreamtime. Each piece of armor represents an element of the earth; Water, Plant, Fire, Dirt, Mountain. For a player to encounter this beast, they must first defeat all four Elite Elders...
Enemone has a fake Pokemon that it uses as bait, but Enemone also have been seen playing with it like a toy. Anglow and Specterror live in the dark depths of the ocean, waiting for unsuspecting prey among the seaweed.
Tympole was introduced to the Straya region from Unova many years ago, which caused a problem that has plagued the region since.
That lil' beauty featured in the trailer early is Thornil! It's absolutely tiny, but gets much larger when it evolves into Falsridus. It has thorns that make the appearance of a much larger head that really intimidates their opponents.
Blitzhock grooves to its own electric sound waves. Haltbzt can blast opponents with an electronic pulse from its palms, paralyzing the foe. Because of this, they're often seen with security guards.
bunnies that are lamingtons
Echidling hide in the long grass in the outback but the grass on its back is quite soft. Don't fall on an Ouchidna, however, they're worse than stepping on bindies!
Australia holds an annual wheelie bin race in Thoona, Vic. In Straya, Wheelin can be found around the city streets on bin nights, while Doughna will be making doughies in the parking lots.
Those with bad road rage are likened to a mad Furiage.
Never forget the great Armu war.
This shark will give you frostbite.
THESE POKEMON ARE WANTED BY STRAYA POLICE, FAINTED OR CAPTURED.
shout out to all those lads on discord who helped name some of these Pokemon during my streams. 🔥
The Porygon in the Straya region are much slower and more outdated than their counterpart. Porygon-Z gets increasingly frustrated by its own low signal which causes it to freeze movement temporarily.
This cheeky bugger has feathers that can be as sharp as knives - and will laugh at you from a distance. Freshays is considered "fresh as!"
These desert dessert Pokemon are the Strayan form of Vanillite. They have a sandy and rocky skin over an icy, inner body.
They may look familiar to some Australians.🤔
A fruit salad fruit bat.
winner winner
Breaking the food Pokemon combo with some tazzy devils.
And they're off! Farlaps are a fast Pokemon with a competitive drive to race. A Farlap's destiny is determined by itself. They may evolve into a mighty, wild Brumbuck or an elegant Caromare.
If you come across a billabong in the outback, you might be lucky enough to find a resting Dragapult. The regional Dragapult have ancient markings, with tiny water Dreepy hiding with them. Finding one in the wild is thought to give a blessing of good rain in the future.
On scorcher hot days like today, it's a treat to go to the beautiful beaches in Australia. Based off coral nurseries, Coray grows coral on its back in a little bubble of protective water. When it evolves into Mylioral, the protected coral expands into a small reef.
amongus
Strayan Foongus and Strayan Amoonguss are decoy Pokemon - they hide in the ground with spore clouds that resemble a sparkling, hidden item.
Trainers have to be prepared for unsuspecting battles with these Poison Type Pokemon!
It's the Summer season here in Australia, where the nights are warm and there are more mozzies than you can count.
Toxito is a common Pokemon in Straya, but it's the 1.6 M tall Buzzler you have to be worried about. It will drain your Pokemon's health to get stronger.
