#localjournalismmatters here are some takeouts from a speech I gave in Bend Oregon. @thebulletin almost went out of business recently but the town rallied behind the paper which has been publishing since 1903. Support local journalism. bendbulletin.com/opinion/759563…
@thebulletin I'll also say this: when you worry about disinformation, when you are concerned about the truth there is a solution -- share stories from legitimate news sources that are fact based. It won't solve everything but it is a start.
@thebulletin Also the news can be overwhelming. But don't check out completely. Set aside 10 minutes of your day at least (ehem, there is a podcast for that @UpFirst) or even better *more* to know what the headlines are.
@thebulletin @UpFirst We do this because of the public's right to know. Meaning there are things that will impact you and you should know about them. Things that will affect how much money you make, how your kids will study and learn, how our taxes are being deployed and why.
@thebulletin @UpFirst The fact based media is often called 'the watchdogs'. But we aren't. YOU ARE. If you aren't watching and listening and reading, then it doesn't matter what we report. It is ultimately up to you to stay engaged.
