maybe i'll list out my favorite games of the decade
Aight. Let's get this shit started. Picked 50 games from 2010 to today. I'll try to order them as much as I can but it's important to note that I cherish almost all of these just as much.
50. Red Dead Redemption is the first out of the only four AAA western games that released the past 10 years that can be seen in this thread
ok real talk though i rly didn't expect much from it but i enjoyed just wandering around with a shitty shooting system and gathering shit
49. Anyone who kinda knows me just knows that i've never been the biggest AA fan out there, but everyone kept telling me how i was missing out on GK2
I didn't expect the best from it but was genuinly surprised at how well rhythmed it was, and how every cases really mattered
48. now let's talk about hot messes
first up is Zero Time Dilemma and i'm probably one of the only members of the ztd apologists gang
i had extremely different expectations from the rest of the fans, and i think that's why i still kinda enjoyed it all (and the flowchart rules)
47. runner up is MGSV which despite the writing trainwreck that it was, managed to get me completely hooked for over an hundred hours of playing
46. I LOKE PIKMIN 3
it looked and sounded so good, felt so nice, and the game is relatively lenient on the user while still restricting them somehow unlike 2
45. Iconoclasts really felt underwhelming went it game to controls, level design and overall i don't think it's a really memorable metroidvania
however everything linked to characters, themes of religion, finale and writing was absolutely amazing
44. Kid Icarus Uprising is an incredibely unique game which is a weirdly cohesive mess of genres
also the amount of guests on the soundtrack makes no sense it's amazing
Please just let sakurai make more original games
43. Ciconia Phase 1 introduces a lot of things and elements for one of ryukishi07's probably most dense dense world we've seen since Umineko
and the end clearly leaves room to an incredible potential
crappy soundtrack but it was a pretty solid first chapter
42. Pyre totally understands how to make story elements mix perfectly well with gameplay. I've yet to see anything like it. Every single thing you do actually has consequences
Best of all: Loss is an option, and a possible outcome both through the storyline and the game.
41. MORE APOLOGISM INCOMING
i don't give a crap kingdom hearts III was the shit. gameplay is exactly like i wanted, and although i agree that there's almost too much shit to deal with and ways to exploit easy attacks, varying makes the game super fun
(also i didn't wait 10y)
40. Blasphemous lowkey has one of the best level designs i've ever seen in a metroidvania. Takes the best from the best classics, and though combat can get repetitive, exploration is the key and best aspect of the game alongside its stellar visuals and acoustic soundtrack
39~38. I don't have a favorite between DR1 and DR2 but i love them just as much. Although DR2 has dramatically better character writing and motivations, DR1 had an amazing claustrophobic atmosphere (and as the first entry, it's a pretty breath of fresh hair)
37. i remember getting this on my birthday and loving it
Looks and feels so good and just makes me :))
love me some good mario
why did i sell this game...
37bis also forgot to include the best mario game in my top.....
collecting has never been so fun and it's so good to go back on the roots of the 3D mario DNA while still keeping the experience fresh
36. not only did Echoes introduce the best difficulty adjustment system in the series (turnwheel) but it also features the best character art and writing in the whole series, despite being a simple NES game at its core
"maps sucks?" i don't give a flying fuck!!!!!!!
35. Puyo Puyo Tetris introduced me to Puyo and i absolutely love it
swap kino mode
also it looks adorable
and story funny
(and tetris good like always)
(i just deleted RDR1 from my top to put Mario Odyssey lol so the numbers are wrong now shit)
33. Permissive, fair, beautiful, endearing, honest and beautifully designed celeste is just amazing on every level
(instead of typing just "celeste" in google image i instinctly typed "celeste kino")
🏳️⚧️
32. AI : The Somnium Files was such a genuine surprise!!!
it sounded and looked really great (especially after the visual catastrophy that ZTD was) and the characters were adorable and the character dynamics just awesome
a compelling ending? in MY uchikoshi game????
31. there will never be a single game in my life that will top my playtime on minecraft. impossible.
still years later it's always a pleasing game to return to at least once every year
30. one of the few big western AAA i actually enjoyed, despite expecting the absolute worst
character interactions and dynamic is lovely, game looks great, game feedback has a lot of weight to it and trying to survive on hard is pretty immersive
(taking a break)
(OH I FORGOT NECRODANCER put it around 40 or something idk.
one of the only two roguelikes i'm good at)
i'm cringe bc i also forgot downwell one of the best mobile optimized game i've ever played
29. BOOM BOMM TARTARRTATRATATATATATAT WOAUUUUUUUUAHWAHW🎸 <wururwurwuwrurhwuhurwhwuhurrhwurhurhwu 🎸rawaHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAYHZHRF TF FEBBUB
youtube.com/watch?v=a6BbvC…
28. family transition; overcooked 2 is the kinoesque of local action coop multiplayer game and no game will ever top it's ovewhelming content alongside dlc and fun dynamic
27. My first entry into the world of Yakuza, therefore it had a very lasting impression on me
i love how simple yet tragic the story is, and the way the remake's direction was handled was pretty flawless considering the original material
26~25. I hold HM1 and HM2 the same, i loved both as much and no ammount of ridiculous enemy visions and windows will change my mind
Part of the start of the indie boom, they're both amazing and unique games
24. i love this piece of shit game so much, taro could shit out whatever he wants i'll be there to eat it all up until there's nothing else
zero is one of his best crafted characters, and the game actually had some nice presentation ideas
and it's the most horny game ever
23. SAVIOR
BLOODSTAIN
HELLFIRE
SHADOW
HEAVEN ON A LANDSLIDE
22. no matter the years.... walking dead is still a good game
back when i started reflecting on what kind of emotional attachment games can give off
22bis i forgot to mention Journey but it's such a sweet accessible game with a very impactful mute multiplayer experience
21. i have a LOT to say about dark souls so pls just read my article about it
patreon.com/posts/dark-sou…
20. absolute kino
this game made me reexperience the joy i had when discovering minecraft for the first time
so much love, so much to explore, dive into and god i wanna replay it now
19. I think hollow knight has my favorite visual presentation in a 2D game
gameplay can be stale but exploration and atmosphere is just 10/10
actually kinda sad they're making silksong instead of a brand new kind of game with a different direction
18. Resident Evil 2 Remake is too good for this world it makes no sense to make a game so beautiful, mechanically interesting and fun to explore
(and i'm starting to realize that games with lots of exploration are my favorite lol)
17. i need to Portal 2 😢 robots make me feel i guess
16. Furi might be one of my most favorite action titles from the past years
not only do the visuals fit right into my aesthetic as well as the soundtrack, but the entire philosphy behind the trial & error formula + rewarding you for your efforts felt super satisyfing
15. Hyper Light Drifter is the second game out of the 2016 Neon Big 3
i understand why a lot of people would dislike it but its haunting atmosphere, repetitive gameplay and exploration and stellar sound design made me fall in love with this majestic universe
14. last of the 2016 neon big 3, va-11 hall-a is just super important to me, for the way it handles characters with qualities and faults, with bubbly personalities and max comfy interactions and music/visuals
13. I can't wait until everyone can play yakuza 5 which has the best gameplay in the series alongside the best and most dense amount of hilarious content this game is too good
12. i think it's time for me to replay it sooner or later but ghost trick was, alongside TWD, one of the first games i primarly enjoyed for the story
11. NMH2 might be suda51's least conventional game because it feels so much more polished than everything else he's produced lol
we still don't exactly know how much he was involved but it was netherthless a pretty cool uncanny experience for my 12 year old self
10. Danganronpa V3 : Killing Harmony might be the best, most well written, and highest quality Danganronpa entry in the entire franchise, with no characters being overshadowed by others
most badass way to end a series, if you're mad about it you're baby
9. Mahōtsukai no Yoru was so shocking
i never expected to get such a visually gratuitous visual novel, with such compelling characters and stunning art direction alongside a marvelous final arc that brought me to tears multiple times
even the daily life was a pure bliss to read
8. this
7. don't think i really need to present this bad boy but yakuza good
6. This bad boy is everything i love with games
uses a storytelling approach you can't find anywhere else than in this media, super fun, explosive visuals and sound design/music
also introduced me to speedrunning
5. controversial, but Yakuza 6 is actually my favorite entry for how immersive, emotionally impactful it was, and how characters are all absolutely endearing
more here: patreon.com/posts/yakuza-6…
4. lisa is a dreadful, experimental, beautiful, awful, disgusting, remarkable experience
also my first big project (translation) done to completion and i'm proud of this shit ok
3. Clearly needs a reread but Virtue's Last Reward had some nerve wrenching and tear jerker scenes alongside really unexpected plot twists
Atmosphere hooked me to death and i coudln't stop playing until i was 100% done with it
1~2. and finally... nier and nier automata, probably the two pieces of fiction that were the most impactful to me for the past few years
the way the entire games are structured and unconventional, characters were written, the world was crafted... i love absolutely everything
about these games and i still can't really pinpoint how important these two games for me and my life. maybe one day i'll be able to explain this to myself someday, but i think part of the reason they're so important to me is that i can't really put it into words
with this i'm done, yikes
