5- A 1953 coup led to Iran becoming a pro-Western nation. The leader of Iran after this was Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, otherwise known as "The Shah of Iran".

6- In 2013, it was revealed the U.S. CIA orchastrated this coup..

7- The Shan increasingly "Westernized" Iran. However, this was too much change for the nation's cultural and religous traditionalists. There is a nation-building lesson here.

8- Ultimately, the frustration with Westernization led to the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

More on his legacy here..👇🏼

12- The Iranian Revolution led to the Iranian hostage crises of 1979 - 1981. More on that here (short thread)..👇🏼

13- Iran has been pain the arse for U.S. ever since. I'll return you to the BBC timeline story for events to present day..

14- Thus here we are. Trump & his Admin are cleaning up a mess that arguably goes back to 1953, most certainly goes back to 1979.

The idiotic Obama Iran nuclear treaty didn't help, but that's another thread for another day.
