@BernieSanders hasn’t been my first choice, but in this long @nytimes editorial board interview I found him kind of lovable.
Some highlights. 1/5 nytimes.com/interactive/20…
As usual, he used the old-fashioned term “industrialized world” instead of the more modern “developed world” or “rich world,” but also said, apropos his heart attack 3 months ago, that he’d just had some “spare ribs.” 2/5
And from the king of the left youth:
NYT: President Obama made remarks around cancel culture and this idea——
Bernie: Around what?
NYT: Cancel culture. Cancel culture.
Bernie: Cancel culture.
NYT: Are you aware of that phrase?
Bernie: Help me out a little bit. Give me a hint. 3/5
NYT: Can you give us an example of one person who’s broken your heart?
Sanders: What, on a personal level?
NYT: Yeah.
Bernie: No. I won’t...
NYT: What are you likely to do poorly as president?
Sanders: I don’t tolerate bullshit terribly well. I’m not good at pleasantries. 4/5
And my favorite, on low wages: “I had to go to California, Disneyland, where you have people walking around as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. They’re being paid 11 bucks an hour.” 5/5
