There's a viral video circulating on social media in which a man who's an employee of @DRNAGPR claims there's oil & gas production off of Puerto Rico's southern coast that's hitting plates & causing earthquakes.
There are 0 facts to support that. The man ⬇️
works in maintenance, at one of the public beaches, in Puerto Rico, according to the @DRNAGPR spokeswoman.
The @DRNAGPR said, this afternoon in a written statement, "Governor @wandavazquezg has explained previously, that the USGS & other Agencies have indicated that there is no oil platform or infrastructure carrying out extractions, hydraulic fractures..."
"... ("fracking") or drilling in the southern area of Puerto Rico. The telluric movements that have been felt in Puerto Rico respond to natural causes.
The expressions spread on social media by an individual identifying himself as employee of the DNER do not represent..."
"...nor it is endorsed by the department. The official positions of the DNER are disseminated through the official networks of the department or through the media. The Department does not support, nor encourages any action that misleads, misinform or create unnecessary stress..."
"... and anxiety on the population. The Department will be addressing any action that do not comply with applicable laws, rules and regulations."
Prior to getting that statement from the @DRNAGPR, we at CBS spoke to the @USGS the U.S. Dept of Energy, & the Puerto Rico Seismic Network
The USGS & the U.S. Dept of Energy said there is no fracking on the island of PR or off the coast.
