Perhaps the most bizarre thing about certain corners of the tech community is that they often profess agnosticism, sometimes even to the point that they mock spirituality, and yet regularly reference deep occult authors, techniques, symbols etc.
Why bother?
Cern has a huge Shiva destroyer of worlds statute, names all of its projects after occult themes and hired psychic artist Susan Treister to create a tarot deck while living at CERN.
The tarot deck's theme is transhumanism and it references deep govt. projects and characters.
Geordie Rose of Kindred AI and D-Wave does not believe in Spirit, however, he regularly uses spiritual and religious language and occult terms. He compares programers to demonologists, and AI's to Lovecrafts's "Great Old Ones" who "do not give a crap about humanity."
In this video he feels the pulsation of his computer is like a heart beat, he muses that he is standing at the altar of an "alien god". This is quite romantic and spiritual language. In fact, the reference to alien gods is a regular thing with Geordie.
What is going on here is a permission ritual where cognitive dissonance is actually purposefully created. They purposefully present 2 opposing truths giving the public a choice to acknowledge the and call out their agenda. When ppl do not do so they consider it permission.
Note: "altar of an alien god" comment is at about 12:12.
