Did you know that a recent major effort of the D&I committee was a member survey to better understand representation and engagement? One of the first manuscripts from that survey was recently published in @AmJEpi!

The @societyforepi member survey on diversity was a tremendous effort - to design, implement, analyze, and publish. Thanks to all those who participated!

We learned a tremendous amount about who members are and what their experiences at #SER have been.

Snapshots:

-Most SER members were White and female (as were survey respondents).
-Members from 8 institutions composed 25% of SER’s membership.

#DandITwitterTakeover (3/n)

Snapshots:
-Men were more likely than women to report being a member of SER for at least 10 years
-Individuals from a number of minority groups felt less welcome than individuals in majority groups (race and religion)

Snapshots:
-Members who felt welcome participated in activities requiring self-initiation
-Females were less likely to be chosen for society-initiated activities while individuals who had been involved in SER for >10 years were more likely to be.

Did you feel your participation in SER was properly captured by this survey and analysis?

Is there more you want to know about SER membership?

#DandITwitterTakeover (7/n)

What other questions should we have asked on the survey? What should we ask on future surveys that would help understand members' experiences in SER?
