Lost in this disturbing video is the troubling answer Rep. Tom Suozzi gave around receiving donations from the same corporations he regulates through his seat on the House Ways & Means committee.

🥊Spoiler Alert: The only person he fights for is himself.

[thread]
1

In the last two election cycles, Suozzi has taken over $1 million from corporate PACs and Super PACs funded by corporate PACs. That's public record.

He happily admitted in the video to accepting corporate donations.

Why?

Tom: "So I can win campaigns against the people you're supporting"

Tom doesn't take corporate 💵 to beat Republicans, but to beat progressives fighting against corporate influence.

Corporate-funded Dems like Suozzi know they can't beat progressives without a rigged system.

3

Are there limits to who he would take money from? Would accepting money from certain companies cross the line? Or violate Democratic principles we fight so hard for?

This is from a recent questionnaire Tom Suozzi filled out that was made public. This should be a hard "NO"

4

Does Tom Suozzi find it hypocritical that he takes so much corporate💵 and received an "A" rating from a PAC named "End Citizens United"— a PAC that routinely endorses corporate-funded incumbents against anti-corporate💵challengers?

Tom: "No, not even that little bit" 🤏

5

Tom Suozzi is the Vice-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus—a bipartisan group that consistently caves to the GOP to push legislation that's out of step with core Dem principles.

The PSC are some of the most egregious corporate fundraisers in Congress.

You'll see *at least* a lot in the next few tweets bc there's no way of knowing exactly how much money certain companies give because it gets laundered through Super PACs.

Ex: The Jobs Opportunities and Education PAC

Great name right? It spells JOE. It's Joe Crowley's PAC

7

Joe Crowley's PAC is filled with lots of companies and PACs from lots of industries with lots of agendas (see the hard "NO" above).

They gave Tom $12k in the last 2 election cycles. But they also gave to other Super PACs that also contribute to Tom.

Tom: “I’m an open book… you can’t point to any vote that I’ve taken and say that ‘Tom Suozzi did this to because he was trying to please his donors’

[then he gets the hook from his staff]

So let’s look at his donors and his votes and policies...

9

Tom Suozzi has taken *at least* $66k from companies profiting off his vote to expand the detention centers at the border. A version of the bill that HIS caucus forced through with the humanitarian aid stripped out in favor of more military funding.

Tom Suozzi has taken *at least* $91k from Wall St. He broke with the party to roll back Dodd Frank and recently signed a letter pushing to ease bank regulations by lowering margin requirements. These regulations protect us from another economic crash.

11

Tom took *at least* $87k from military contractors and repeatedly funds military spending bills, regardless if the bills lack safeguards to prevent misuse of the funds by Trump or anyone else. His votes also benefit his personal investments.

Tom was one of the last Dems to call for impeachment, was one of the only Dems to not sign onto the Trump emoluments lawsuit, and has repeatedly declined to explicitly call out Trump’s racism and misogyny.

Trump is also a former donor to Tom. 😬

Tom isn't fighting for us, only to keep himself in office, which in turn, only benefits the GOP and his corporate donors.

My campaign is about restoring Democratic values to a safe blue seat and pushing real solutions that put Long Island and Queens families first.

14

I proposed the #PAIDBYAct specifically to force transparency on politicians like Tom Suozzi who consistently put the profits of their donors ahead of their constituents. This would call for public disclosures of their conflicts of interest.

Tom Suozzi admitted he takes corporate 💵 in order to defeat progressives like me.

He knows he can’t win in a fair fight.

I’m not taking corporate 💵 because my integrity isn’t for sale.
