The Trump admin’s Asylum Cooperative Agreement is a terrifying disaster for the vulnerable men, women, and children asylum seekers who have been sent to Guatemala. This isn’t the half of it The program has to end immediately. The ACA is not protecting people, it’s hurting them.
That same psychologist also told me that the ACA and mistreatment by @CBP is especially hard on children - that it has caused an interruption in their development and that they are showing signs of aggression and stress, which is in turn causing physical health issues.
Some asylum seekers reported they were placed in handcuffs and shackles on the plane. The Trump admin sends pregnant women to Guatemala, as well as children as young as 8 months old, people who are sick or injured, and LGBT people.
Some asylum seekers said they were only given showers once a week or every few day and that they had to finish in 5 mins. They were only allowed to make 1 or 2 calls lasting only 1 or 2 minutes each. No one I talked to could reach an attorney. They said agents shouted at them.
A list of the obscenities @CBP agents reportedly employed when talking to these folks - mostly asylum seeking families with children:
“F*cking migrants”
“Chinga su madre” (F*ck your mother)
“Wa wa wa” (to mock crying)
“Tantos” (stupids)
“Pinches maricones” (F*cking f*ggots)
This isn’t at all the first time I’ve heard reports like this. But to then be sent to Guatemala to boot is just crushing for these folks. Please demand that your lawmakers hold @DHSgov accountable - defund this abusive agency.
