The @DRDO_India presented a very clear headed concept of its Naval Anti-Shipping Missile Short Range (NASM-SR) at the DefExpo 2020. The sea skimming missile is being developed for use from Sea King helicopters.
Equipped with INS for mid-course navigation and IIR for terminal homing, the missile should be capable of fire-and -forget launch. However, it does have a two way data link (for abort, change of target?) IAC, NASM-SR would be difficult to detect, engage, seduce or jam!
The data link would also be essential in case of a fast moving vessel which could change its coordinates substantially with the 2-3 min flight time.
It is likely that #NASM (Naval Anti-Shipping Missile) will eventually equip the #MH60R helicopters for which India signed a $2.6 b MoU with the US during the recent @POTUS visit. India was initially planning to equip the MH-60R helicopters with the Norwegian Naval Strike Missile.
The initial Indian request for 24 MH-60R had included 2 Naval Strike Missile (NSM) Emulators and four (4) Naval Strike Missile Captive Inert Training missiles. The #NASM is a close NSM analog. #MH60R delivery will span 5 years from contract signing.
