❓❔We're ready to get started with our #STGNursingCareers chat!

We will be answering the questions we've had sent in, as well as some of the common queries we receive about working as a nurse at St George's.

#NationalCareersWeek | #NurseTwitter | #StudentNurse

Our first q is on the opportunities outside of ward nursing and at more senior levels?

Our options include specialist clinical practitioner roles, education, research, training, wider management or other patient-facing settings such as intensive care.

❓What are the standard shifts and working hours and what flexibility do you offer?

➡️Most inpatient areas offer long days 0730-2000 & nights 1930-0800 which = 13 shifts per month. We are flexible & balance requests for flexible working with the needs of the service.

Now a q for our Chief Nurse @BleasdaleRob - what’s the best advice you’ve ever had?

"Have confidence in yourself. It's ok not to know everything. Also, our jobs are busy and physically/emotionally stressful so take time to look after yourself and your team"

@BleasdaleRob ❓I can’t afford to study full-time for a degree – is there any other way I can train to become a nurse?

➡️There is now a career path from HCA to Nursing Associate to nurse via apprenticeships which enable you to learn while you earn. Read more 👇

@BleasdaleRob ❓Do you offer rotation schemes?

➡️After 6 months you can take part in rotation to experience different clinical areas. If your initial role isn’t quite what you wanted, we can find the environment that suits you and your interests best

@BleasdaleRob Another q for @BleasdaleRob - what's the best thing about St George's?

💬"It's one of friendliest places I have worked. Staff are supportive and welcoming - it’s a place where you and your career can grow together with a wealth of roles and opportunities...

💬"I am inspired and impressed by all our staff we have and the care our nurses, midwives and AHP staff provide every day."

@BleasdaleRob ❓What roles are you recruiting for?

➡️During the year across 40+ specialties and services, and in particular now: Haematology & Oncology, Cardiology, Senior Health, Neurology, Acute Medicine, Neonatal ICU, Endoscopy, Surgery (Theatre Scrub Nurses)#NationalCareersWeek

@BleasdaleRob ❓Any advice for NQNs?

@BleasdaleRob: "There are no silly questions. Use your first few months to consolidate your learning and get experience. You will have a range of emotions in this time & that’s normal. Nobody knows it all - asking is how we learn"

@BleasdaleRob ❓I am working as a nurse in my home country – do you employ overseas nurses?

➡️Yes and you will be very welcome here! You need equivalent standard of training and English language skills. You will need to pass certain tests to start work.
