Maybe i should do a thread on pipeline fire incident and explosion. Highlighting the risk, exposure, root causes, mitigation & consequences.

Its a sad situation out there and we need serious legislation about pipeline vandalism and enforcement of pipeline right of way (prow).
There too many encroachment on prow nationwide.
People go as far as removing government dermacation

Public safety start from reporting activities of vandalization and stay clear of prow.
Dont rent houses close to pipeline.
Dont park your car in prow or near it, the missiles from flying object can cause considerable damage to buildings and car

If you find out properly, in most cases the pipeline were there before other properties were developed.

Most pipeline are 40, 45, 50 years old. They are buried underneath except in few cases of erosion and intrusion by vandalisation.
They vary in sizes from 6", 12" & some 18"
Any leakage when the pipeline is pressurized will lead to massive spillage

Pipeline transport different petroleum products, can be crude or refined product. Spillage of either of the product is dangerous to life, properties and environment.
Thorough clean up and remediation will be a challenge both in short and long term

Refined product transferred through pipeline are majorly PMS (petrol), i must safe that if not tampered with, pipeline is one of the safest means of product transportation but the danger is in its flammability when there is vandalisation

Root causes of pipeline fire are
-vandalization by criminals(major factor in Nigeria)
-corrosion due to age
-material failure due to wear and tear
-earthquake (rare occurrence here)

consequences of vandalization
-spillage of petroleum products
-damage to nearby properties (look at the number of cars that was affected and buildings and saddest is the boarding school)
-deaths few will be lucky to escape safely
-environmental pollution

why do people vandalize?
someone might ask
me, i can only say its criminal intent and deserve maximum penalty under the law but believe me that they are a stronghold with highest level of connection and unimaginable sympathy from all quarters.

its barbaric for anyone to justify a criminal act inform of vandalization, people say such thing as greed, hardship in the land, povertyetc
Just look at the damage in the picture attached, if any of the cars belong to you, will you just the act.
Look at school students

I dont know if insurance can cover this kind of loss but do you think it will be immediate relief for the hardship and pain inflicted on the owners of these cars and that is why we say report any suspicious activity on prow. safety is everyone's duty

What you should do
1-dont rent house/shops around pipeline
2-dont put your children in school close to pipeline
3-dont park your car close to pipeline
4-dont buy land close to pipeline
5-call @Fedfireng when you see fire
6-know @rrslagos767 @followlasg emergency number

If your house is close to prow, if you can afford it go and look for a safer location or better still dont renew when your rent expires.

What to do during pipeline explosion
-call @Fedfireng & @lasemasocial and state location of incident
-stay away from window and glass because they shatter and turn to missile/flying object during explosion
-dont block the access route for emergency truck &fire service

The best solution to me is to make each state pass the following laws:
1-vandals should be sent to life imprisonment
2-any buildings encroaching on prow should be demolished immediately
3-no one should park on prow
4-clear all prow regularly.
