Trump announces the CDC is now recommending people wear face coverings to stop spread of coronavirus, but then immediately says "I don't think I'm going to be doing it."

"The security, and secretary. The secretary of homeland security."

"We are expanding the role of the armed forces in our response effort because no one is better prepared to win a war than the United States military" -- Trump

Trump touts unproven drugs: "Hydroxychloroquine ... I don't know it's looking like it's having some good results."

TRUMP: "Stay at home. This is ending. This will end. You'll see some bad things, and then you're gonna see some really good things ... we're getting better. We're getting better very quickly. This was artificially induced."

REPORTER: Why are you opposed to wearing a mask?

TRUMP: "I just don't want to wear one myself ... I'm feeling good. I just don't want to be doing-- somehow sitting in the Oval Office behind that beautiful Resolute Desk. The great Resolute Desk ... I don't see it for myself."

Trump says that each of the oil executives he met with today at the White House took a "test" (presumably a coronavirus test) before entering the meeting room

Trump says he had nothing today with the FDA recommending that restrictions on gay men donating blood be loosened

Trump says he doesn't know where Dr. Fauci is and then attacks @Acosta for asking him about his whereabouts in the first place

Asked why he disregarded warnings from within his own administration about pandemics, Trump argues that nobody could've anticipated this particular pandemic

ACOSTA: Why don't we have enough masks or equipment?

TRUMP: "Previous administrations gave us very little ammunition for the military and very little shelf space."

(Trump was president for 3 years before the coronavirus hit.)

Trump claims the military was "literally" out of ammunition when he took office, which is one of his laziest and most egregious lies yet

Trump can't explain why a number of oil executives who he met with today each had to take a coronavirus test before meeting with him

Wow. Trump unloads on a reporter who dared to ask him about Kushner saying on Thursday that the federal ventilator stockpile is "our" stockpile & not the states'.

"When he says 'our,' he's talking about our country ... it's such a basic, simple question. You oughta be ashamed."

TRUMP: "We have a stockpile. It is a federal stockpile. We can use it for states, or we can use it for ourselves. We do use it for the federal government. We have a very big federal government."

After Dr. Birx defends Trump's handling of the coronavirus, @Acosta points out that "the president was saying this is going to go away."

"I said it's going away. And it is going away," Trump retorts.

.@jonkarl: Cuomo says NY may be days away from running out of ventilators. Can you assure NY that they will have the ventilators they need?

TRUMP: "No. They should've had more ventilators at the time. They should've had more ventilators."

Trump has been president for more than 3 years and has never done anything for infrastructure but now he says, "infrastructure is a great thing for me."

Trump has jokes: "The models show hundreds of thousands of people are going to die and you know what I want to do? I want to come way under the model. The professionals did the models and I was never involved in a model. At least this kind of a model."

Trump ends the press briefing with some thoughts on voting rights: "I think a lot of people cheat with mail-in voting. I think people should with ID -- voter ID ... you should have a picture for voting. It should be called voter ID."

Rather than do everything he can do to save lives in New York right now, Trump seems to prefer holding ventilators in reserve for a future circumstance where other states (perhaps ones more crucial to his reelection hopes) are in need. vox.com/2020/4/3/21207…
