A #HateCrime and act of direct discrimination was committed at Queen Victoria P.S. by a #TDSB employee who sent anti-Black hate mail to a Black school administrator. The hate mail threatens 6 Black and racialized teachers directly (contd)

The hate mail threatens six Black and racialized teachers directly by name, poisioning their work environment and effectively removing them from school for months of this school year, to the detriment of students and families.

This is angering, unlawful and unacceptable @tdsb_qv @Tdsb_stondat. It seems your idea of "working collaboratively in service of our Black students" means concealing anti-Black hate activity from parents/guardians while endangering Black students in your care.

This appalling human rights violation has alarmed us and we demand immediate action from TDSB leadership.

TRANSPARENCY:
QVPS and TDSB administration made no effort to inform parents/guardians or to protect Black students in light of the incident. Parents on the Black Student Success Committee were not informed. Parent Council was not informed.

Parents with students in the classrooms of the absent teachers were not informed, despite parents, guardians and students asking specifically and repeatedly about the absence of Black and other racialized teachers.

ACCOUNTABILITY
How has the TDSB handled and investigated this human rights violation? Who is responsible for creating and distributing the hate mail and what disciplinary action has been taken?

How has the board supported the affected teachers and how is the board ensuring a safe working environment for teachers and students, in light of the incident and moving forward?

NO MORE HIDING
Any TDSB policy that allowed this vital information to be withheld from parents and Black students put at risk must be addressed.

We expect the board to address parents/guardians immediately via a formal communication that includes context and details of the incident, responses to all questions above, and an apology for this disgusting occurrence and its cover up.

Our QV community deserves and demands better than this unlawful and oppressive treatment of Black staff and families.
