First, our Jefferson County Health Officer @drmarkewilson invoked shelter in place in mid-March before we had a surge.
@randallwoodfin Birmingham Mayor has worked to keep the city (with a large URM population) safe with aggressive measures.

Our Governor @kayiveyforgov followed the Jefferson County lead and developed a statewide shelter in place, closing retail.
Just yesterday she released a very measured reopening. The great thing about this slow release is the advisory committee that she used.

Finally, UAB has had a major role in patient care, and community outreach. We were ranked 1st in the country for Community Outreach Efforts Around Health and Well-Being
This infrastructure has allowed our institution to work closely with our population

Alabama and especially Birmingham is not what you might think. We are meeting this challenge with mature decision making. We are so very proud of the role the @uabmedicine has taken thus far. We have challenges that I believe Birmingham, UAB & Alabama will meet
