@dan613 @jimdtweet @mike1glyn @rahmstorf 1/5 Marcott was thoroughly debunked:

Such claims require erasing Dark Ages Cold Period & Iron Age Cold Period from history: a big red flag. But even if you believe Marcott (& Kauffman 2020), Rahmstorf's claim is dubious.

@dan613 @jimdtweet @mike1glyn @rahmstorf 2/5 Here's Fig.4 from Kauffman 2020:

As you can see, even their paleoclimate proxies mostly show the Mid-Holocene Climate Optimum at 0.5 to 1.0 °C warmer than 1950.

@dan613 @jimdtweet @mike1glyn @rahmstorf 3/5 To claim to KNOW that we've warmed more than that since 1950, as Rahmstorf does, requires cherry-picking evidence:

@dan613 @jimdtweet @mike1glyn @rahmstorf 4/5 Moreover, despite our higher CO2 levels, temperatures are still apparently much lower than they were during the previous interglacial (Eemian). Here's a NOAA graph showing their estimate of Eemian peak temperatures: about 3¼° warmer than the mid-Holocene Climate Optimum.

@dan613 @jimdtweet @mike1glyn @rahmstorf 5/5 No matter how hard Rahmstorf tries to gin up climate alarm for his Munich Re clients, the best evidence still shows that manmade climate change is modest and benign, and CO2 emissions are beneficial, rather than harmful.
