.@GaryMayorPrince will continue Gary's #CoronavirusLockdown through May 22, then start lifting restrictions.

Gary has 529 coronavirus cases, 20% of Lake County's total. Prince says the city continues to have double-digit increases daily.

Gary will allow restaurants, stores, and personal services (e.g. hair salons) to open at 25% capacity, 1/3 what state will allow by then. They must require masks for all customers and workers, and must "strongly urge" social distancing.

Several large Gary churches are already delaying in-person services to June 1, and Prince urges others to follow suit.

Restaurants/stores/salons open May 24, two days after Gary lifts stay-home order. Gary will be entering Stage 2 as state enters Stage 3.

Gary health department director Roland Walker: city has had just 15 new cases last 2 days, but that's due to shortage of testing supplies. State has sent supplies, and city will begin walkup testing at @iunorthwest next week. Walker expects cases to rise again with more testing.

With updated numbers from Walker, Gary now has 19% of Lake County cases, due to dropoff yesterday.

50,000 masks donated to Gary and will be distributed for walkup/drive-thru, two hours from now.

Gary's infection rate, one for every 141 people, is higher than all but three Indiana counties (Cass, Marion and Decatur).

Gary Police Chief Richard Ligon says GPD will continue to enforce restrictions. He says he's received about 10 thank-yous from residents for breaking up non-social-distanced gatherings.
