Isn't it funny that you're concerned about the clothes she was wearing when you should be concerned about the vile heart of the rapist?

Isn't it disturbing that you're concerned about what she was doing at a particular place, when you should be concerned about why a rapist would be walking freely on the streets?

Shouldn't we check you for asking why she couldn't scream or run,

when obviously she was overpowered and scared to death?

And then it goes on and on again, blaming the rape victims!

How do you blame a child that was raped by her father?
How do you blame her for being raped by her sibling?

Are you really going to blame Shola for going on an arrand for Broda Segun, and innocently going inside his house to give him his change?
How do you blame a human who was violated?

How about the baby who's wearing a diaper and can't even report her case?

Have you not heard and seen enough?

Maybe you should ask us why we increase our steps when we notice a shadow behind us,
Maybe you should ask us how we feel at the market place when Chinedu drags us, and even hit our bums 'jokingly' cos he's trying to market his goods,

Maybe you should ask us why we cross to the other side of the road in fear when we see 'poor men' going their way,
Maybe you should ask us why we do not go hiking or jogging alone anymore,

Maybe you should ask our widowed mothers why they're so angry whenever that uncle of yours comes around. Has she even had the courage to narrate the story?

Maybe you should ask us why we stay outside when we invite an artisan to work in our homes.

Maybe you should stop blaming us!

Should our freedom be censored? Shouldn't we be able to move around without a male figure policing us?

Is it not funny that you point your fingers to accuse the one who was stolen from, rather than the thief? Is it not sick?

Year after year, time and again, this keeps happening. Hash tags keep trending. #JusticeFor... #JusticeFor...

When is it going to end? Our friends, our sisters, our leaders, our mothers... The shame, the pain, the humiliation, the silence culture!

How is it that a victim of theft cannot report her case for fear of being judged and hushed? Is that how vile the human race now is?

Here's what...

Start by not looking away from any snide comments on rape without spewing sense to the writer.

Start by taking any slight report on sexual harassment seriously.

Start by teaching your daughters about their body parts. Start by instilling confidence in them. Tell them they're not "the minor gender"

Start by teaching your sons they're not entitled to a woman's body.

Start by rebuking that neighbor's son for always maltreating that girl. No, they're not just "small shudren"

Start by frowning at uncensored and insensitive rape apologetic jokes.
Start by bearing children you would be responsible for, in training and in discipline.

Start by refusing to shut up at this evil, start by voicing out for the voiceless.

Start by resisting the urge to blame the rape victims!

While you do all these, don't forget to introduce Jesus to the hardened hearts of those without him, for if the hearts are clean,

evil is brought to book.

For those that have ever been victimized through rape, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry that anytime your heart sees this topic, memories you wished weren't there come rushing.
I'm sorry that for years you've lived with the trauma without having a break.

I'm sorry you always have to watch your back unconsciously even in your room.
I'm sorry you even cannot open your heart to love again cos you've been betrayed by the ones you thought loved you.

I'm sorry you now hate church, cos... Your pastor

I'm sorry you now hate home cos... Your dad.

I'm sorry your heart knots anytime you see your offender walk on the streets painless.
I'm sorry you were hushed quiet.

I'm sorry you were blamed and even victimized in your sorrow.

I'm sorry you think rape might be normal, cos no, it isn't normal.

It's not your fault. It's never your fault a thief stole from you.

I pray offenders are exposed and brought to book. I pray they cease to roam our streets freely looking for the next victim

I pray this evil withers.

More importantly, I pray for you sis,

That your heart heals.
I pray you get beauty for your ashes.
I pray you get the oil of gladness for the sorrows.
I pray you see a reason to live and excel effortlessly.

I pray your heart be illuminated with light and the shadows be burned.
I pray when you decide to tell your story, we see nothing but rags turn to riches.
I pray you THRIVE!
