And we're LIVE! Join us for the 2020 #CCCIndex launch. bit.ly/3eWebRw
"Our data shows that the anti-corruption wave that began a few years ago … has clearly lost steam and in some cases, like Brazil and Guatemala, it appears to be dangerously receding."
— @robertosimon, laying out the 2020 #CCCIndex's main finding

@robertosimon The COVID-19 response is putting tremendous fiscal strain on governments in Latin America, and that means fewer resources dedicated to anti-corruption, and for companies less resources dedicated to compliance, says @Control_Risks' Geert Aalbers.
#CCCIndex
@robertosimon @Control_Risks . @robertosimon breaks down the methodology for the 2020 #CCCIndex, which this year analyzed 15 countries (7 more than last year) across 14 variables, and consulted with 3 experts from each country.

@robertosimon @Control_Risks For anybody who'd like a clearer look, these are the graphics Geert and @robertosimon are going over right now.
#CCCIndex
@robertosimon @Control_Risks Geert Aalbers notes that only one country improved in each of these sub-categories:
Legal capacity = Peru
Democracy + political institutions = Argentina
Civil society = Colombia (< still below regional average but an improvement nonetheless)

@robertosimon @Control_Risks Aalbers and @robertosimon did some work to put together some "clusters." Aalbers says this second group is the most "dynamic."
Reminder that the #CCCIndex
doesn't measure the perceived amount of corruption in a country, but its ability to detect and prosecute corruption.
@robertosimon @Control_Risks Peru is “generally a good news story,” increasing its #CCCIndex scores on 6 of 7 variables.
The Achilles’ Heel remains on the democratic side + legislative ability. The dissolution of Congress allowed for some new blood, but high fragmentation makes it difficult to pass reforms.
@robertosimon @Control_Risks Mexico clearly expanded enforcement against financial crimes and also passed some unprecedented laws against tax fraud, says @robertosimon, but we don’t know yet what their long-term consequences will be.

@robertosimon @Control_Risks One area Mexico scores above average on #CCCIndex: civil society mobilization against corruption.
It’s clear civil society has driven the anti-corruption debate and was able to shape legislation, says @robertosimon.
One notable example of this: Ley 3de3. bit.ly/2Yfk31y
@robertosimon @Control_Risks Closing thoughts from Geert Aalbers of @Control_Risks on the 2020 #CCCIndex findings on the risks of political polarization from the perspective of companies.
