In addition to Justice in Policing Act, we should also implement task force recommendations on officer wellness. Officers who respond to child abuse, sexual assault, fatal accidents, grisly murder scenes should get mandatory counseling.
And, we should consider spending more on public safety, not less. That may take different forms, such as investment in mental health and social services, but if we want officers to uphold professional standards, we need to pay them more. Starting salary for Detroit Police is $36K
