THE PROBLEM WITH SHANE DAWSON: a thread

Who is Shane? Chances are, you probably know. He’s one of the biggest YouTubers out there. He started with skits over a decade ago and has slowly evolved into a conspiracy theory and “documentary” channel

The main issues with Shane are his poor attitude, racist tendencies, and terrible decisions that platform and promote other racists.

To start off, Shane’s early skits frequently featured a “ghetto” character called “Shanaynay.” Shanayay was an obvious stereotype that Shane played for laughs and it worked. People were big fans.

During his early days, he also did full on black face several times in skits.

He also used the n word. He has since apologized.

Flash forward to 2013. Shane created a podcast called “Shane and Friends” where he interviewed various media personalities alongside his cohost Jessie.

This podcast was REALLY bad for Shane. He frequently made super off color and offensive jokes, including jokes about p*doph*lia and be*sti*lity

Let us not forget the famous “Shane came on his cat” clip!!

I don’t think Shane is a predator but these clips really show his poor judgement.

Luckily, the podcast did bless us with my single favorite piece of media of all time

In 2014 Shane released the movie “Not Cool.” It’s his only actual film and it was met with TERRIBLE reviews. Jokes included homeless men eating their own shit, men exposing themselves, homophobia, fat jokes, etc.

The reviews for this were AWFUL and cemented that Shane would never have a film career. The New York Times reviewed it saying “Everyone involved in this film should never work in movies again.”

Eventually Shane got into the conspiracy theory videos. These videos are AWFUL. Shane has promoted and platformed many problematic conspiracy theories and theorists, including 9/11 truthers

These conspiracy theories also actively harmed companies. For example, Chuck E. Cheese now has a reputation for messing with their pizza just because Shane said so

One of Shane’s early conspiracy collaboraters were The Psychic Twins. Shane pushed THE SHIT out of these girls. He made them a YouTube channel and got them several high profile collabs.

In one video, the twins with Shane claimed to channel the spirit of murdered six year old JonBenet Ramsey. They spoke as her and claimed to solve her murder. INCREDIBLY tasteless and disrespectful. This is a real child, not a conspiracy theory.

Shane got into documentaries in 2017/2018ish. It started with conversations with his abusive, absent father and honestly it was pretty good. The worst part was seeing how Shane pisses in bottles and leaves the bottles around the house 🤢

Shane’s next big documentary was with Bobby Burns. Bobby made a video about Shane and Shane decided to bring him on the channel to talk about the video. The video wasn’t hate as much as valid criticism, but Shane REALLY pushed Bobby as a hater.

Shane tried to Mr. Beast Bobby and gave him a weekly channel feature, a brand new car, and dozens of resources. However, Shane’s fans HATED Bobby because he was a “hater” and nothing like Shane. It was irresponsible of Shane to intergrate him and then drop him just as fast

Once Shane did his documentary with Graveyard Girl, his content changed. Shane felt like he helped “save” Bunny’s channel and decided this was his new direction, even though Bunny’s channel is still struggling

What Shane’s Tanacon series shows is that he is a TERRIBLE interviewer. Because he’s her friend, he doesn’t ask any hard question and he believes everything she says. He makes no attempts as a journalist to prevent an unbiased and even view

Tana also has a long history of racism and problematic behavior. Because Shane also dealt with being “cancelled”, he LOVES to platform other people who have been called out for acting like pieces of shit

After Tana, Shane moved on to Jeffree. Jeffree is a violent racist who has made comments against black women for several decades. Shane made no attempts to challenge this and instead celebrates his friendship with Jeffree. https://t.co/r8fVKNgXVX

Next series was Jake Paul. These videos were IRRESONSPIBLE and TERRIBLE. Shane says he “can’t diagnose” Jake as a sociopath, but implies it through out the entire series. He uses this “sociopath” label to justify the terrible things Jake has done.

In the series, Alissa Violet talks to Shane about how Jake physically abused her. Shane seems uninterested and doesn’t care. He never confronts Jake about what Alissa said and he very clearly took Jake’s side over Alissa’s

My other big gripe about this series is how bad Shane’s editing is. All the videos are almost an hour long and you don’t even see Jake Paul until the last few videos of the series. Shane can’t write/direct.

The next big Shane video was his collab with Eugenia Cooney. Both Shane and Eugenia have eating disorders and psychologists shamed this video for not speaking on the subject in a responsible way insider.com/shane-dawsons-…

And now we get to this Jeffree Star shit show. First of all, Shane has never worn makeup. The biggest makeup moments I’ve seen from Shane in over a decade of viewership is him drawing an extra eyebrow for Shanaynay

Shane decided to make a palette with Jeffree Star not because of his love for art or makeup, but because he saw big dollar signs. He even made a second channel for “Makeup videos” and never posted on it. youtube.com/channel/UCAVoj…

I also can’t emphasize how harmful it is to continue to promote and collaborate with Jeffree Star. These videos came after Jeffree’s drama with James Charles

Shane never even touched on the drama. He promoted the videos saying he was going to show Jeffree during that time and he never did.

Shane and Jeffree were also the ones who encouraged Tati to release the video and then LIED about not having prior knowledge to it. Shane was DIRECTLY involved in taking down James career even though he’s twice James age.

The “Conspiracy” and “Controversy” palette also show how Shane isn’t really apologetic for the shit he’s done. The names make fun of the fact he’s been involved in so many issues and “cancelled,” even though the reason he was cancelled was him talking about googling “naked baby”

Shane can’t stop talking about Jeffree, his palette, or promoting Jeffree and it’s because this palette has left a Shane rolling in cash. Nothing like two white cisgender men who have both treated people of color poorly sitting together and gossiping in their mansions

During this palette period, Shane also has never spoken about how Jeffree had a close relationship and defended a convicted p*doph*le, Dahvie Vanity, something that came to light within the past few months centennialbeauty.com/jeffree-star-d…

Why does Shane feel the need to defend Jeffree and all of his actions? Why does Shane think he needs to “fix” Jeffree’s public image? I gue$$ we’ll never know

Here’s how Shane responds when he’s called out for promoting racists. He feels nothing but sympathy towards people who say the n word and promote various harmful ideologies

Shane has just done so many things that would have DESTROYED the careers of any average celebrity but his fans are willing to blindly excuse his actions time and time again and he will continue making bank off the backs of racism for years to come

Also, forgot to mention earlier in the thread, during that Chuck E. Cheese video Shane kept jumping from an old Youtuber Brittani talking about how her husband abused her to the pizza stuff. Spousal abuse is not a conspiracy.
