Donald Trump just said that he did not fire U.S. Attorney Berman. Bill Barr has some explaining to do, hopefully early next week.
Berman’s preservation of records can continue unimpeded.
The most striking part of AG Barr’s letter is that he cited case law which holds POTUS can terminate U.S. Attorneys who are appointed by judges. In other words, Barr pointed to legal authority that supports his false misrepresentation - not the facts.
