Nigerians openly celebrate pedophilia in the guise of early (child) marriage but are quick to condemn two consenting same sex adults in a committed relationship. #SuchHypocrisy #VisibilityMatters #GlobalPride2020

What does "Pride" mean to you?

This have been a resounding and recurring question among LGBTIQ folks and have formed part of the various conversation that occurred within the various safe spaces, particularly for the Nigerian community as we commemorate the #GlobalPride2020

Reflecting on this question led me to understand how exceptional, phenomenal, talented, and extraordinary I was as an effeminate young man, being brought up in a conservative catholic background, schooled at the best catholic/christian schools,

devoted my childhood and adolescent life to church service as a member of Altar Knights Association and Youth Choir among others, was an example for other young chaps to emulate but in all these,

I had a deep sense of physical, emotional, romantic, and sexual attraction toward persons of same sex; this was without self animosity or doubt.

Therefore remembering all these led me to conclude that personally, pride is the ability to own and embrace my identity and to use my actions and experiences to create a change and positive impact for a better future for LGBTIQ folks in Nigeria and around Africa.

This is my Black Boy Joy, the reason for my existence at a time and in a world like this.

So, I am determine to ensure that my life and work showcase the fabulous nature of queerness as a mirror for young folks who are just discovering their sexual orientation or gender identity to emulate and be assured that they are not alone

and that they are loved regardless of the oppression, discrimination or stigmatization. What does Pride Mean to You?
