I’m watching the 3rd season of the British show Broadchurch in which the storyline is centred on detectives trying to identify a serial rapist. It delves into police procedures for rape victims and highlights the trauma of rape and the services available to victims. /2

I’m impressed with the drama’s realistic portrayal of the intense distress experienced by women who are violated by rape but all I can keep thinking is this: since we know how traumatic rape is for victims, with special crime units assigned to deal with it as well as.../3

...a multitude of social services established to help direct the healing process, why has our contemporary society failed to connect the dots to the truth that sex is sacred? Any woman will tell you that that idea of being raped is worse than the prospect of being beaten up. /4

We’re all created with a sense of the natural law imprinted on our hearts and this knowledge teaches us that violent and undesired physical intimacy is a wound like no other. If we extrapolate this knowledge into our everyday lives, surely we must assume that promiscuity, .../5

...casual sex, and even sex between a loving couple who are not committed, is bound to affect our psyches in negative ways. Women especially are vulnerable to feelings of being used or even exploited when giving their bodies to anyone other than a husband, /6

even if these feelings exist at only a subconscious level. I believe so many relationships are more dysfunctional than ever before because of how we misuse the gift of sexuality. This reality comes to the fore when we ponder the devastating anguish suffered by rape victims. /7

Sex is the most intimate union possible between two people which can also result in new life. Our health and well-being demands that we treat sex as the profound act that it is. I was so deeply impressed with this truth while viewing Broadchurch, that I felt compelled to share.
