If I do say so myself, I have been one of those vocal about cases of disrespect for the Rule of Law by the Buhari administratn. To show that it was never personal I am happy to sing the President's praises to the high heavens today for doing the right thing. As this thread shows.

Weeks ago justice reform advocates like @ChidiOdinkalu @sjonu @ByAtsen and others in @BarInitiative raised alarm on this streets about the patently questionable nomination of 33 new Judges of the FCT High Court by the NJC. Discerning minds knew that some things did not add up.

The @BarInitiative promptly petitioned President Buhari to suspend the appointment and cause an investigation to be conducted into the process. To compliment that, the @JRPNigeria filed an action at the FHC Abuja to challenge the appointment of 21 names on the #NJC33

My heart skipped when I saw a notification pop up this afternoon that President Buhari has appointed Judges for the FCT High Court. My initial reaction of course was NOT AGAIN!

I have painstakingly compared the names of the newly appointed Judges with the names of the defendants in the #NJC33 action currently pending at the FHC and I can happily say that only name in the list of appointees Christopher Opeyemi (Ekiti) is a defendant in the case.

Apart from that solitary exception, it is safe to say that President Buhari has in this instance demonstrated respect for the rule of law by not taking any action that will render nugatory a pending action. As it should be. I am happy to consider the single case as an oversight.

Without entering into lis pendens territory and consequentially rendering myself liable to contempt for flouting the sub judice rule, let me just make some general comments about the appointment of judicial officers in Nigeria.

In Sacred Classics Or Cabinet Library of Divinity: Sermons on the Resurrection 1835 it was famously said, "ignorantia judicis est calamitas plerumque innocentis, says the father, for the most part, even the ignorance of the judge, is the greatest calamity of him that is accused."
