Yesterday, @theSNP warned the Tory government's fiscal plans don’t go anywhere near far enough to protect jobs and prevent lasting damage to our economy.

Today, companies have announced around 10,000 job losses with growing warnings of mass redundancies.

No one is pretending that every job can be saved. But there is little point in Tory ministers apologising on breakfast TV, then refusing to take the action required. If the Tories refuse to act - they will bear their share of responsibility for the jobs that are lost as a result.

The SNP has set out a plan that meets the unprecedented scale of the crisis we face. We want a stimulus package of at least £80bn (4% GDP), extension of the furlough scheme into 2021, and the devolution of powers & Barnett consequentials to enable a tailored response in Scotland.

That is a meaningful and reasonable plan that would make a real difference. It would meet the scale of ambition that other countries are showing (e.g. Germany) and it would give Scotland and the other devolved governments the powers to deliver a tailored, investment-led recovery.

Scotland can make different decisions for an investment-led recovery, which protects jobs - but we can only do that if we have the powers and funds required. We must not be left tackling this crisis with one hand tied behind our back. The Tory government must step up and deliver.
