AFAICT Google’s AMP project is an attempt to specialize more for browsing while Fugu is an attempt to specialize for apps.
I’m not familiar enough to comment on why each project is meeting resistance, but I will say that people are as concerned about losing an open commons as they are concerned about the Web falling behind
My inclination for decentralization is to solve the applications usecase because it’s the area with the most immediate impact. Decentralization solves data and code ownership, which we need for apps
It’s also a personal frustration that the Web platform is weak as a computing environment because it’s my preferred apps platform. I would like to do more than browse via web tech.
So I think it’s worth a shot to try something a little riskier with the permissions story. If apps can’t run independently of services then decentralization can’t happen. You need a platform, might as well make it the Web
