1/

The MN teachers union put out their list of demands for opening the schools.

In it, they not only talk about following the science re: COVID they talk about addressing the *racial and social inequities that plaque our system*  Equity is not new to the teachers union.

2/It has been a buzzword/topic for years.

Equity is not the same as Equality.

First bullet point goes back to listening to the science. What is interesting though is that if the TU actually listened to the science they would realize that children are not the super spreaders

3/ the media has lead everyone to believe.

Second bullet point it calls for strong paid leave policies and guidelines so *both* educators and parents can stay home if they are sick, caring for a sick loved one or the high risk. Basically, they are calling for *all* employers

4/ to redesign their paid sick leave policies for indifinite periods of time (for people who are high risk)

Third bullet point they are asking for sinks --- in addition to public health tools that prevent the spread of the virus that and *align

5/ them with education stategies that meet the needs of students*  it lists out the basics, sinks, sanitzer, cleaning supplies, masks, face shields, and other protective equiptment (like what?)as well as stringent cleaning and disinfecting procedures. Basically more money.

6/ sixth bullet point this is a biggie. Invest in recovery and redesign our schools. It will include how these "interventions" will require more money ("investments") in our schools, universities, hospitals, local and state governments- so they do not bother to only discuss our

7/ schools. They have added a bunch of other entities that do not have anything to do with our children. It is about "community" which transitions into equity.

Then it complains that the CARES money wasn't enough and of course the Democrats HEROES act provides billions of $

8/ to "keep our communities whole" which was largely written last year prior to COVID.

The final paragraph starts with a reminder that the decision to reopen though must be *rooted * in health, safety and equity and *not* be based on an arbitrary start date. A clear tell they

9/are NOT going to open the schools come Sept.

And as every good Democratic organization does - a crisis is nothing to waste, it goes on to state:

"Let's also see this moment as an opportunity to rebuild our public education system so all students, no matter what they look

10/ like or where they come from, have access to safe welcoming schools where they can pursue their dreams."

Ah, aren't we in a so called "health crisis"?
The TU had stopped pretending so we can too!
Open the schools! Enough is enough!

End.
