In his latest move to make the milk farmers #Aatmnirbhar & to double farmer's income - India's Modi is making a deal with Doland of the US.
India seeks concessions for 'generic drugs' which it exports to US in return for slashing tariffs on US dairy & farm products.
1. Dilip Shanghvi of Sun Pharmaceuticals is India's largest manufacturer of 'generic drugs' & an exporter to US.
2. There's a glut of milk in India esp in Maharashtra & Punjab.
3. Maharashtra farmers are agitating against Modi's decision to import milk powder
4. Presently, the issue of plight of milk producers is a political hot potato in Maharashtra.
5. Due to Covid-19 related lockdowns - milk farmers have suffered disproportionately. Milk procurement prices have remained subdued & it's uneconomical to the farmers.
6. India has reported a huge rise in the area under sowing this season. The rains have been decent & farmers are expecting bumper harvest.
7. It will surely lead to a widespread depression of farm produce prices.
8. On the side, Modi is weakening MSP procurement mechanism.
9. In these circumstances - farmers will be at a great loss. They will suffer deathly blow & may not recover from it as they are already beleaguered.
10. The proposed trade deal is ominous. It's another attempt to profit the 'Electoral Bond' buyers at the cost of the electorate
11. I urge @RahulGandhi @capt_amarinder to stop the trade deal.
12. I urge farmers like @ramanmann1974 @Sandhwan to spread awareness.
13. I urge @OfficeofUT @dadajibhuse @bb_thorat & @NANA_PATOLE to oppose & stop it.
