Team #oakmtg, team #defundopd, I know we are all heartbroken about how the budget decisions came down over the last month. I'd love to start a thread of ideas for how we can keep being productive citizens and help the cause.
1. Hold city council accountable over the next year to actually make that 50% defunding happen. There's a lot of talk about committing to it but we need to remind them about their words in the next budget election. #oakmtg
2. Educate your neighbors about the empty promises, half-truths, and disappointment that you've seen in these meetings. Let people know about the most problematic councilmembers. Tell them who to vote for in November. #oakmtg
3. So many of you have shared that you're able to be engaged because you are unemployed. It's a small amount, but being a poll worker is a paid position, and many poll workers are typically retired--and at-risk for COVID.... #oakmtg
...It's also extremely rewarding (I was an SF poll inspector after Trump took office).
I'd love to hear more of your ideas about keeping the momentum. #oakmtg
OH, and don't forget, we have more council meetings and police commission meetings coming up, that will focus on strengthening or weakening the PolComm's power among other items. #oakmtg
