I decided to face my fear. I completed the Datascience with python track in DataCamp

It took me about 4-5hrs of daily learning for 6 weeks.
Thanks to @TundeTASH for the motivation

I find DataCamp to be a good resource for beginners. Let me tell you how i learnt for FREE👇

There are many courses out there but it is important to find the right one meeting your needs

So I went on Quora to read experiences of people learning datascience. Fortunately DataCamp was offering a free learning week. I took a week-off from work to maximize the opportunity

Afterwards, I realized Microsoft offers 2months free DataCamp subscription for its users.

This free subscription allows you to testrun before paying and if you are fast and motivated like me, you can even finish a whole skill track within 2 months.

To get 2months free, you need to register on Microsoft & go to Visual Studio Dev Essentials. Here you find a range of free learning options including DataCamp

People dont value what they get for free but the freebie actually gave me some kind of deadline pressure to keep learning

So I continued to learn intensively but I had to skip the associated project for the course in order to cover all the topics in time.

I was also highly motivated because I could already apply the knowledge to my scientific research.

The DataScience track in DataCamp consists of 23 courses covering topics like pythonbasics, Numpy, pandas, Datavisualization, MachineLearning in Scikit-learn etc

I realized I only scratched the surface of python & datascience but the course gave me a good foundation to build on

DataCamp provides an interactive web interface that allows you to practice as you learn. Additionally, DataCamp offers the same content in R incase you prefer to code in R than Python.

I was already coding in R but now i feel more confident in python than R.

DataCamp subscription costs 25$/mnth or 300$/yr. After such a great test running, I believe the paid subscription is worth-it. I plan to subscribe as my freebie ends

Trust me this is a good opportunity for graduate students in STEM and social sciences to expand their skillset💪
