With steel rods courtesy of @SDennett, two flat bits of wood from the tool cupboard, and the cunning instructions of @TheMontyDon, I am make some plant supports.
Rod bent round the tree, set between the two bits of wood, with a foot or two to keep it in place, bend it upwards and bob's yer uncle.
The feverfew is going over anyways--if I've learned anything from Gardeners World about plant support, it's that you do it before it needs it--but it'll keep it off the path. And it's so much better than canes for the purple loosestrife.
This is definitely the way to go for next year, when I shall get in there much quicker, particularly on the Saint John's wort. Which I realise I should probably have got pics of now it's a tad less floppy.
