In 2017 I was the target of a months-long harassment campaign. Alt-right trolls from Reddit and 4chan doxxed me, sent me death threats, and attempted to contact my managers at work. They publicly posted my home address. (thread)
Once when I left work for lunch, I saw someone across the street taking photos of me, which later wound up on Twitter with my work's address. Another time, late at night on the subway, someone locked eyes with me, took out a knife, and began tapping on one of the metal poles.
I reported it to the police, but they didn't do anything. I became afraid to walk alone at night. At the height of it I felt like I couldn't even leave my home.
It died down but never really ended. I still get threats fairly often, especially when I post something "political."
When someone says they know where you live and they're going to kill you, they're probably just doing it to intimidate you, but there's a chance they might actually follow through.
I'm working on a longform comic about that kind of fear, and just posted the first part to Patreon. It's not actually about what happened to me, but rather a fictional story about feeling trapped. I hope you like it! patreon.com/posts/39749511
