For me that didn't pay as much attention to this aspect of history, I never knew Japan's response to the Hull Note is significant.
In the series, the response was different. Japan is trying to make the US as the aggressor/perpetrator of the impending war.
If the alternate history wasn't differerent than the real one, then by 1941 Imperial Japan have done atrocities at China etc. I dunno how the authors assume that by playing this scenario, they can make the West the villain in the war?

Meanwhile, near Kauai Strait, Kimmel is facing Takasugi's fleet with carriers. But the Deep Blue Fleet is also lurking nearby, annihilating the US fleet. The torp tech is way beyond US comprehension.
