In an incremental but significant victory, the government has agreed to restore 4G mobile internet in one district of Jammu and Kashmir each on a trial basis after 15 August i.e. Independence Day. #4GForAll 1/n

This has been stated in Union of India's additional affidavit filed last night and also confirmed by the Attorney General during today's hearing before the Supreme Court in @mediatrack_in's contempt petition. 2/n

A copy of Union of India's additional affidavit is available here: drive.google.com/file/d/10LwQyg…

We will also post a detailed update about today's hearing shortly which will include the written submissions filed by the petitioner. 3/n

This is a step in the right direction and it will require follow up action to ensure the government eventually restores 4G internet in all parts of Jammu & Kashmir. 4/n

Every citizen should have effective internet access in Digital India and we will continue our work against arbitrary and disproportionate internet shutdowns which are a pan-India problem.
