A critical conversation that we are NOT having,at the level I believe we need 2, is the trauma that occurs when #pain is undertreated or not treated. There are volumes and volumes of articles on how trauma impacts #pain but NOT how trauma is occurring right now to those 1/
who have pain and are not treated or abandoned. I saw it with my kids, the trauma they faced throughout their medical journey has caused a great deal of trauma. Both have health issues that will need to be addressed throughout their life. Due to #medicaltrauma (ie pain being 2
ignored/dismissed as well as other traumas) they are seen as ‘difficult’ patients, ‘resistant’ patients. Through my lens, their actions make sense. I saw first hand the harms. If physicians could see the depth of suffering they experienced it would make sense to them also 3/
Of trauma is going to be entered into the conversation, it can’t be used selectively. Right now so many inds are being impacted by additional trauma due to current climate this WILL have impact on healthcare system. We see inds suffer which should be enough to 4/
change our course but healthcare systems will I believe experience the impact of those inds that have not been adequately treated 5/
